Truffaldino
Beatrice and Florindo are betrothed. When Florindo is suspected of having killed his beloved’s brother, he flees to Venice under an assumed name. Beatrice follows him, disguised as a man. Both take up lodgings in a guesthouse, unrecognised. Beatrice’s servant Truffaldino, a fool, jester and devil all rolled into one, is above all chronically hungry. When he notices the arrival of a second traveller, he seizes the double opportunity for food and pay, becomes – secretly, of course – that man’s servant as well, and thereby finds himself in all sorts of tricky predicaments, becoming entangled in ever-new lies as he plays his dual role.
