Alberto Giacometti in Paris in the 1920s
A short guided tour to mark the 125th anniversary of Alberto Giacometti’s birth
In 1922, Alberto Giacometti moved to Paris – a move that fundamentally transformed his artistic practice. In the French capital, he encountered the ideas of the avant-garde, explored Cubism and African sculpture, amongst other things, and developed new forms of sculpture.
The guided tour traces Giacometti’s experimental creative phase in Paris – from his break with his early work, through iconic pieces such as ‘Femme Cuillère’ (1926/27) and ‘Tête qui regarde’ (1928) to his acceptance into the circle of Surrealists led by André Breton.
The guided tour is led by art educator Sarah Jacky.
