Cherchez la femme – Women’s Perspectives in the Avant-garde

This guided tour of the exhibition “Avant-garde – Graphic Design on the Cusp” highlights works by well-known and lesser-known female pioneers of modernism.

The reasons for the marginalisation of women in design history are well known, with patriarchal structures playing a central role. In the early Soviet Union, however, the aim following the revolution was to implement a consistent gender policy of equality, which manifested itself briefly in art and design. In the West, too, a number of female designers were actively involved in the feminist avant-garde. The interactive guided tour of the exhibition “Avant-garde – Graphic Design on the Move” highlights works by well-known and lesser-known female pioneers of modernism.
