Sabine Marcelis—Light and Color
Designer Sabine Marcelis creates sensual experiences out of light, color, and materiality. Her first museum exhibition "Sabine Marcelis—Light and Color" features luminous works and mesmerizing spaces in which plays of light generate an immersive experience.
Sabine Marcelis (b. 1985) is a virtuoso at orchestrating light and color, reflections and transparency. The Dutch designer transforms translucent materials such as glass, resin, or natural stone into luminous, reflective, and expansive objects. Despite their imposing presence and sometimes large dimensions, her works capture the light to exude a surprising lightness and atmospheric depth. Design, art, and architecture form a unity in her minimalist designs.
Marcelis’s first museum exhibition combines central groups of works from recent years with site-specific light works developed especially for the show. A reduced scenography condenses lights, mirrors, and immersive installations into an intense spatial experience. Samples and material studies provide insights into her creative process. The result is a fascinating setting suffused with color and magic—an exhibition in which the boundaries between object and environment dissolve.
