Steps: The Fall / Risings

What happens when two artists who don't yet know each other meet? This dance evening is the answer to this question. What began as a risky blind date turned out to be a stroke of luck shortly afterwards: in 2024, Akram Khan brought Joy Alpuerto Ritter and Hannes Langolf together and let them work together for ten days. The experiment worked: In this short time, The Fall was created, a piece that immediately danced its way into our hearts.

Two strangers meet in an unknown place. There are no rules, laws or concepts in this space. Anything is possible. Together they have the chance to build a perfect future: Chaos meets order. The play plays with these two opposites and shows how much fragility but also potential there is in human fallibility.

For Steps 2026, we want to retain the experimental character - in the spirit of: It worked, let's do it again. For the festival, Joy Alpuerto Ritter and Hannes Langolf are further developing the existing outdoor piece for the stage and inviting Swiss artist Sarafina Beck to co-create the indoor version: The Fall becomes The Fall / Risings.
