Future Islands

Melancholic, danceable synthpop is the speciality of US band Future Islands. What makes the group so unmistakable are the warm, barking vocals of frontman Samuel T. Herring and his powerful stage presence. And a sound that becomes more and more timeless with every year of the band's 20-year history.

Refused

"Refused Are Fucking Dead" was the name of a documentary film that was released in 2006. It told the story of the Swedish hardcore band's rise to world fame and their abrupt end in grainy images. But as is the case with old musicians who can't let it go, there was a reunion later on. Now, after the re-release of their groundbreaking album "The Shape Of Punk To Come", it's "Refused Are Fucking Dead" again. For good this time?

If it didn't sound so much like YouTube seminars and misunderstood masculinity, you could describe Suuns' music as crypto-pop. Because somehow it is pop, with sugary sweet harmonies here and there. But it's also cryptic, intricate and shifted, with disharmonies here and there. Be that as it may, this Canadian band is an experience live.

Once again, something that only Austria can produce: Attwenger are a duo who have been bringing together dialect, accordion, hip-hop and drum'n'bass rhythms and a punk rock attitude for more than thirty years. An original that you should definitely see live.
