Theatre highlights in December

At the end of the year, we are blurring the boundaries between theatre, performance and installation and exploring the possibilities in between.

Something more than just theatre

Theatre can be many things, as the following productions show in particular: whether performance, installation, in the theatre, outdoors or in a museum, they blur the boundaries and create new areas.

ALL TABS

ALL TABS, based on the poetry book "Loops" by Carla Cerda, is a diploma project by a student at the ZHdK. It falls through all the cracks and ends up somewhere in the spam folder or in the vaguely defined area between installation and performance.

From the Tree

From the Tree is both a sound parcours & performance installation. What happens there, how ritual instruments of our digitalised everyday life can sound and what Greenman Muleh Mbillo has brought back from Akambaland for the Zurich audience can only be experienced by those who take part themselves.

Desireless

Desireless by Nicola Genovese offers almost everything: collaborations with various artists - including a goth rock band -, video installations and sculptures that become props, various apps that work with artificial intelligence and a performance that crosses the boundaries between visual arts and theatre.

The Migros Museum of Contemporary Art is showing a performance series focussing on sound practices. The museum poses the question: What happens when body and sound meet? On show are works that represent different positions on race, gender and sexuality. These include My hair woke up horny as fuck: an exploration of body memory and desire as well as An(a)kara:, which allows the memories and confusions of a Muslim child to appear as voices and objects and addresses the clichés and conflicts about East and West and the omnipresent (self-)censorship.

Theatre by and with disabled people

Two productions that will be shown at the Fabriktheater deal with school and feelings. School of Lovers poses the question of "how to feel and communicate a yes and a no in your body; how to flirt, maintain your boundaries, touch mindfully and how to love yourself", while Bad Actor plays specifically with the experience of drama school and develops an acting theory for autistic people.
