Susanna Koeberle is a freelance journalist, author, and curator focusing on design, architecture, and art, as well as their multiple interfaces. She’s a nomad based in Zurich, multilingual, lic. phil. I. She’s most interested in the diversity of cultural expressions. She considers aesthetic or scientific aspects to be equally fertile ground for culture, just as everyday phenomena are, too. The goal of her work is to find out what relationship exists between different disciplines and cultures. As she does that, she tries to see the bigger picture in the smaller example.

Whom would you rather never have met? I think uncomfortable encounters can be very instructive (but that doesn’t mean they always are).
What do you fear more; the judgement of a friend or the judgment of enemies?

In theory I would like to not fear either. At best, you can counter your friends’ judgment, but you are at the mercy of your enemies’ verdicts.
When did you stop believing you could become wiser – or do you still believe it?

Not wiser, but I trust or at least hope for growing wisdom as I age.
Are you convinced by your own self-criticism? No
What do you need in order to be happy? Happiness isn’t some kind of permanent state. Happily.
Do you usually know what you are hoping for? In the short term yes, but I try to avoid long-term hopes. I hope for the wisdom of age (see question 3). I’d be ready for that any day now.
What hope have you now given up? None.
In regard to the world situation, do you hope:
a. that reason will prevail? Yes
b. that a miracle will occur? Why not?
c. that everything will go on as before? Oh, definitely not!
Have you humorous feelings when you are alone? Yes. Humor makes life that much easier to bear, and you don’t necessarily need anyone else around.
Is home to you something with a flag? No!
Why do you enjoy giving gifts? I like it to see people smile.
What risks are you not insured against? Life.
