A look behind the scenes: even theatre

Vodka, a hotplate and lots of books: the sogar theatre introduces itself and shows the three items that must not be missing in day-to-day operations.

"Our hob is almost part of the family."

She has already acted in various theatre plays. In "The Legend of Amine and Amanda", Hörnli and Ghackets were prepared on top during the performance. In "Five in the Morning", actress Lubna Abou Kheir cooks coffee with cardamom on the plate. And at our premiere, she keeps the premiere soup warm, which the audience and actors eat together after the performance.

Presented by Ursina Greuel, Artistic Director.

Vodka! Not against stage fright, but as a household remedy

There is always a bottle of vodka in the cloakroom at the sogar theatre. This is not necessarily intended to calm down actors who may have stage fright. Instead, the vodka is poured into an atomiser, which is then used to disinfect costumes that cannot be washed. Vodka kills bacteria and is effective against the smell of sweat. As we work on a tight budget at the theatre and can't take costumes to the cleaners after every wear, this is a good solution. (It also works for home use, by the way.)

Books, books and more books!

Books are piled up in many places at the sogar theatre: In the theatre office, because we all love to read, and in the sogar bar, where we also sell books. Our evenings are almost always centred around a book or a literary text. We also regularly invite authors to read or perform their own texts. If the audience is then hooked, they can buy the book afterwards and finish reading it at home.

Presented by Tamaris Mayer, Managing Director, Spoken Word.

At the top of the pile is "Muskeln aus Plastik" by Selma Kay Matter; reading on 26 October as part of "Zürich liest").
