The park – an idyll

Numerous sculptures are nestled within the collection’s lush parkland. By a fountain overgrown with branches, for example, Hubacher’s ‘Daphnis and Chloë’ stands in a setting that perfectly complements their quiet tenderness. This placement lends the sculpture a secluded atmosphere in which the couple’s innocent awakening to love can unfold undisturbed: a quiet dialogue with nature that evokes the innocence which already characterised Longus’s ancient tale: It tells the story of two foundlings raised by shepherds on Lesbos who discover their love for one another amidst meadows and springs. This world finds a modern echo in the parkland setting of the collection.

Reinhart’s criterion for collecting has always been quality, never the quantity of the works. This is precisely what makes the ‘Am Römerholz’ collection so vibrant to this day: a repertoire that offers new stories with every new hanging and guarantees almost inexhaustible interpretations.
