My first time ... at the Zollhaus theatre with "anundpfirsich"

On Langstrasse, people not only consume, but also improvise. A first visit to the Zollhaus theatre.

Admittedly, some of the characters and scenes that made an appearance were hugely entertaining. Particularly noteworthy was a lively forensic scientist who chattered like a machine gun and would love to make out with the inspector or a spontaneous chase on a scooter. This is probably also what makes the import theatre so special, but the quality of the characters and the acting varied greatly. For every successful character, there were two or three uninspired personalities who led the plot nowhere. The actors, and probably the audience too, had to keep reminding themselves that a murder case was actually being solved. For example, in one scene, Inspector Knöpfli is reminded by the public prosecutor to finally solve the case and in the next, he promptly finds himself on the golf course with a colleague. "I don't even know what I'm doing here, I have to solve a murder!", Knöpfli shouts into the audience in amazement, earning big laughs.

The essence of improvisational theatre is the unplanned, the unpredictable, the orgiastic.

I realise, of course, that an improvised crime thriller is no match for a "crime scene". Nevertheless, I was surprised at how forced some of the plots felt and the resolution of the case ultimately resembled a forceps delivery (it was the drug dealer because she wanted to smuggle drugs through the indoor swimming pool's pumping system - don't ask me). If I'm honest, I probably would have preferred to see an undisguised improvisation piece that wasn't printed in the guise of a crime thriller. After all, the essence of improvisational theatre is the unplanned, the unpredictable, the orgiastic. It is better to experience this in its pure and untamed form. For my part, I will definitely be going to "anundpfirsich" again - but then spontaneously.
